چکیده

The Eighth Annual Pezcoller Symposium focused on the mecha nism of genetic instability, a characteristic of neoplastic cells that also determines tumor progression. Immortality as a consequence of the lack of susceptibility to mechanisms of maturation, senescence, and/or apoptosis was also discussed because it is another pivotal character istic of the neoplastic cell. Mutational lability, changes in DNA repair capabilities, gene recombination processes, cell cycle check points and apoptosis, the significance of telomerases in cell immortality and senescence, and the clinical relevance and exploitation of the phe nomena considered were topics discussed toward a clarification of mechanisms involved and of the extent to which some of these phenomena are causatively interrelated. The first two sessions were devoted to discussions of possible mechanisms of gene instability. Maurizio Gatti discussed the TAs3 that occur in Drosophila mela

The Tenth Annual Pezcoller Symposium was held in Trento, Italy from June 29 to July 1, 1998 and focused on issues concerning the genetic predisposition to cancer and genetic modifiers of this predisposition. The main topics discussed were: (a) genes and genetic pathways involved in the development and control of cancer and their alterations; (b) animal models useful in studies of the genetics o...

Ninth annual Pezcoller Symposium: The biology of tumors.

The Ninth annual Pezcoller Symposium was held in Rovereto, Italy, on June 4 to 7, 1997, and focused on molecular mechanisms underlying the biology of tumors. The genetic mechanisms underlying heterogeneity of tumor cell populations and tumor cell differentiation were discussed. Tumor cells closely interact with host cells and cell products having different functions, and these interactions play...

Fifteenth annual Pezcoller symposium: molecular in vivo visualization of cancer cells.

Recent advances in the understanding of the molecular phenomena underlying neoplastic development are leading to the recognition of metabolic features characteristic of the cancer cell. It has become possible to visualize the presence of these cells in vivo and to follow their progression toward increasing anaplastic behavior through measurements of molecular markers that can be achieved by phy...

Thirteenth annual pezcoller symposium: focusing analytical tools on complexity in cancer.

The physiopathology of cancer cells is the result of very complex signaling networks that represent in many cases distortions of the orderly networks regulating the physiology of normal cells. These networks are the consequence of the expression of, or the lack of expression of, genes, mutated or not, which represent the genomic profile of different types of or of individual cancers. The comple...
